Analysis of Code Mixing In The Television Program Bukan Empat Mata Trans 7

This research is to analyze code mixing that is produced by Tukul Arwana in a talk show called “Bukan Empat Mata” as one of television programs in TRANS7. The main purpose of this study is to get information about the types of code mixing, the reasons of the usages of code mixing, and about code mixing influences audience in understand the language in the television program “Bukan Empat Mata Trans 7”.
This study has two significances: theoretical and practical. It analyzes the types and the reasons of code mixing. Here for the reader to comprehend in code mixing which has the relationship with their subject that will be increasing their insight and can be used as alternative references especially for the students of English Department. They can use two languages especially Indonesian and English have the coherencies between mixing of many languages and increase insight about audio lingual.
The research design of this thesis is descriptive qualitative design because this research does not make statistic or type of calculation. The researcher just gets the data from analyzing conversation containing code mixing of the presenter’s conversation on 16th August 2011. For documentation the researcher use video
recorder that downloaded from YouTube about television program in Trans7 “Bukan Empat Mata”.
Based on the data obtained the researcher found three types of code mixing They are: Intra-sentential, Intra-lexical sentential, and involving a change of pronunciation. For Intra-Sentential type, the researcher finds 36 words in the show. For Intra-lexical type, the researcher finds out 1 word in the show. And for involving a change of pronunciation the researcher finds 9 words in the show. So the researcher found out 46 kinds of code mixing. Furthermore, in this thesis the researcher mentions nine reasons. But not all reasons used in this television program. The researcher just finds seven reasons used in this television program. The reasons are such as: Quoting somebody else, interjection (inserting sentence fillers or sentence connectors), repetitions used for clarification, intention of clarifying the speech content for interlocutor, to soften or strengthen request or command, because of real lexical, to exclude other people when a comment is intended for only a limited audience. The writer recommend to the next researcher to analyze another code mixing phenomena for example, in the literary works like a translation novel, or in the email through mailing list. And the researcher hopes for other researchers to explore, be more creative, and investigate some other phenomena of code mixing in other speech community.
