Improving Student’s Vocabulary By Using English Songs For The Fifth Class Students At SDN Sumberngepoh 01 Lawang
In learning vocabulary, we cannot precisely determine which words are really important and which are not. According to the 2004 curriculum, for the elementary school, the aim of teaching English in Indonesia is focused on building English knowledge about words, sentence, and its vocabulary as the foundation for the next steps of level school area (in this case the above level – the junior high school level). To achieve the goal the students should master adequate number of English vocabulary and structure.
The problems, there are also a responsibility of every English teacher in his country. English teacher should know some techniques of teaching vocabulary. To improve this inadequacy, effective techniques of teaching vocabulary items should be used.
The research of this study is a descriptive qualitative research; it is intended to describe the teaching English language especially vocabulary for children. The purposes of the study are to know the effectiveness of song in teaching vocabulary.
The objective of the work was to test and measure the effectiveness of teaching vocabulary through music. This work is divided into two parts, a theoretical and a practical part. The aim of the theoretical part was to provide scientific findings on related subjects.
As conclusion, the researcher found out that this method can build the students to grasp the meaning of words, to try the students‟ ability in remembering the new words, feel the students skilled to follow the teachers‟ explanation.
