One of important thing to teach English is vocabulary, because it can make students easy to translate word in English. With vocabulary students will know the difficult word. The students can express their idea also in making sentences. In the other hand, teacher has multitude technique and must be able to select the ones, which will be the most efficient in leading the learners to the desired behavior. One of interesting media that can be used is picture, by using picture set, the students are expected to be interested in making sentences, so they will feel easy to express their idea into paragraph. One problems of this study were: “what the student’s who are taught by using picture get better performance in vocabulary than the students who are not taught by picture ?”
The design of this research is descriptive quantitative which focuses on experimental. in which the data is explained in the words and number. To get the data, the researcher observed SMPN 3 Blitar. There are 58 students. From class VII C 29 students in SMPN 3 Blitar last experimental class, while 29 students in class VII D as control class. In collecting the data, the research uses an instrument. That is a test. In analyzing the data, the research uses t-test because in this research, the research must compare of experimental class and control class. After calculating the data, the research found t-value is, 6.468 and t-table is 0.020with 5%.
The result of this research is that there is significant different in teaching vocabulary before and after using picture for students of SMPN 3 Blitar 2013-2014. as indicated by a statistically higher vocabulary score of experimental group students (M = 85.34, SE = 9.525) than control group students (M = 65.52, SE = 12.126) in the post-test. Therefore, the teacher should be able to stimulate the students interest in teaching vocabulary.
The study supposed to be useful and give contribution in the studyof experimental in order to be continued by student of KANJURUHAN UNIVERSITY of Malang other students who are interested in experimental. After the researcher observed and discussed the finding the researcher need to suggest teaching vocabulary by using picture to first grade at junior high school. The researcher felt that those technique proved to be very successful to the students first grade at junior high school.
