Improving Students Narrative Writing Ability By Using Mand Mapping at The Eight h Grade of SMP Wachid Hasyim 10 Prambon
Writing is one of the most important aspects in learning English. It is one of the ways that we communicate to other people. It makes the teacher to emphasize learning English in writing aspect. To get good score in writing the students need some special media that can motivate and help their to be independent learners. Then mind mapping are applied by the teacher or even for the students.
The research problem of this study is “How can Mind Mapping Strategy improve writing ability of the eight grade at SMP Wachid Hasyim 10 Prambon?”. This study is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject of the study included fifth grade of class B at SMP Wachid Hasyim 10 Prambon. There were 30 students participate the test in the last meeting. The instruments consist of observation checklist for teacher and students’ activity, field note, questionnaire and test.
The mind mapping strategy helps the students improve their writing ability especially Narrative text in learning English. The media as mean for students to discuss in group about how to create a good narrative text, and writing task for each students in one cycle. Students discuss what they will write in group and do writing task by them self. It is able to facilitate the students to understand how to write English well.
The result of the study was seen in the result of the test that is given to the last meeting. The students get satisfying answer. It can be seen that 75% the whole of the students’ writing score were equal to or above 75 (SKBM). The students are more active during learning process and more confident to write English, so their writing improved. The students also enjoyed and happy when they learned in the classroom during the implementation of Story series media.
Based on the findings of the Mind Mapping implementation, some suggestions are addressed to : 1) The teacher is expected to use the various method of teaching that can be effectively improve the students’ writing ability, for example Mind Mapping, and be able to get involved more in teaching and learning activity, especially in applying Mind Mapping strategy. The teacher should always keep monitoring the students in order that the teaching and learning activity can be successful. 2) The students are expected to be more active and get involved more in learning process. The enthusiasm of the students is very important to support the teaching and learning activity run successfully. 3) The further researcher can find another possible effective teaching media or strategy that can be applied to improve the students’ writing ability in teaching and learning activity.
