The Analysis of Common Mistake On The Translation of Westlife Lyric Song Made By Transtool Program

Language is one of the most important media used to communicate with other people. Knowing this, the researcher thinks that it is important to understand the language used. English is one of the international languages used in a lot of countries. To understand English, we have to know what people say in English.
This understanding has a relationship with translation. Some people think that translating text is easy, but if we see it carefully, translating text or other works is not easy as thought. Someone has to learn about it carefully because if we translate a work without having any knowledge about it, we will not have a good translation. One of the tool that can help us translate a text is transtool . Transtool is an application in computer that help us translate any work ; even they are symbols, words, phrases, sentences , and texts. In this study , the rsearcher chooses Westlife’s lyric songs as her data.
There are ten songs choosen , they are : Uptown Girl, Queen of My Heart, World of Our Own, I Have a Dream, If I Let You Go, Raise Me Up, More Than Words, Flying Without Wings, Season in The Sun, Swear It Again. Those ten songs are famous songs. They stay in ‘ The Most Popular Songs in Westlife,s album’ and become the best selling album. That why the researcher chooses those songs because maybe everybody knows the songs.
The problems that researcher has are (1) What are common mistakes made by the transtool program of Westlife’s lyric song? (2) How are recommended translations for the choosen songs?. The research design of this study is descriptive qualitative because she analyzes text based on th quality of the data.
Since the researcher analyzes only common mistakes made by transtool, this method is also called single-case study.
From the analysis that has been done , the researcher knows that most common mistakes found in transtool program are : (1). The translation has different meaning from the source language, (2). The translation has alternative meanings. (3). The translation is not effective because the sentence used is too long. (4). There are some untranslated word used in the translation , (5). The translation is meaningless.
In fact, using transtool is not the best way to translate texts. Until now, there is no evidence that proves translation made by transtool is better than human translation. That is why, human translation is still much better than transtool’s. this is because human can handle a range of texts types but computer can not. Transtool provides many vocabularies but it cannot give a good translation , on the other hand , when someone has many vocabularies, we can give a good translation and more acceptable than translation made by transtool.
