The Study of Students Motivation In Studying English At Second Grade of SMPN 01 Wagir

English is very important in all parts. There are many reasons why people learn because English plays an important role in international interaction. English is difficult because English is foreign language in Indonesia.There are reasons why people learn English as foreign language such as to pass examination, read English books, communicate with foreign, etc. They learn English not only in the class but also for future purposes that is to enable them to get jobs. Having qualified in English might give wide opportunities to get a good jobs, so the condition rises up the students’ motivation to studying English. One of the ways to attract students interest to study English is by increasing students motivation itself. Study is a process of learning, so the teacher has important role to motivate the students learning including facilitating, guiding and showing something to learn more understand.
Many factors affect students’ success in learning. Motivation of English learners is one of the most important aspects to determine the successful learning. It was believed that students with higher motivation of learning foreign languages tend to perform better than those who have low motivation Chang (2005). Motivation is the extents to which you make choices about goals to pursue and the effort you will devote to that pursue it. Kind’s of motivation divided into two basic types as follows: 1) Intrinsic motivation, and 2) Extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation it comes from individual inside factor might include needs, interest, and enjoyment (Mars, 1996: 27). Extrinsic motivation is influenced by external factor of learner and external stimulus which follows as result of a certain response (Marsh, 1996 : 28). That might include the hope of financial reward, need to pass an exam, or the possibility of future level (Harmer, 1988: 51).
The research design, which is used in this study, is descriptive qualitative research. In the thesis, the researcher wants to explain about the study of student’s motivation in studying English at second grade of SMPN 01 Wagir. The researcher took class VIII C in academic year of 2012/2013 by random sampling. The researcher took one class consists of 33 students as sample. The data were collected by observation, questionnaire, interview, and documentation. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that motivation is very important to increase the student’s motivation in studying English. The student’s motivation in studying English at second grade of SMPN 01 Wagir show that the students sometimes were interested in studying English, has a little concentration level, many students found difficulties in studying English, and the students sometimes asked about the material. Finally, the students hope to be better in studying English. Giving motivation is important. The motivation can be as media, performance, feel, emotion, habits, awareness, attitude, assignment, insight, advice, etc.
Based on the findings in this study, it can be concluded that motivation is some acts movement to the students to be diligent in studying, especially in studying English or doing something positively. So, that motivation is very important thing to help the students reach their goals. Motivation pushes and influences the student’s achievement and success in learning English.
