An Analysis Of Syntactical Structure Using Tree Diagram In Info Komputer Magazin Advertisements

At present, advertisement becomes more popular and keeps going on rapidly in all media. Advertisement plays an important role in daily life, people find them when watches television, listening to radio, reading magazine, browsing internet, in street and many more. Therefore the researcher chose the advertisement to be analyzed and took a syntactical analysis on sentence patterns used in Info Komputer magazine advertisement.
In this study, the researcher used theory of tree diagram which he learned in Syntax class. The theory of tree diagram proposed by Diana D. Bornstein is used to analyze sentences into each of the content of the sentence. The researcher chose Syntax because Syntax is the most difficult subject for student of English Department In order to have deep understanding in Syntax, the researcher than chose advertisement sentences in Info Komputer magazine from January until March edition both of 2012 and 2013.
The researcher chose Info Komputer magazine because it is technology magazine which is familiar in Indonesia especially for people who love information and technology and they can be found by people in many places. On other hand, it is an interesting magazine because it is colorful magazine and it has advertisements which are interesting and various.
This thesis employed descriptive qualitative method. The steps in taking and collecting the data are finding the Info Komputer magazine, reading all of the advertisements in the magazine, comprehend the advertisements to select the ones in English only and writing down all sentences from the chosen advertisements to be analyzed.
Having analyzed the data, the researcher finally found five sentence patterns of the info computer advertisement sentences. Some sentences consists of noun phrase plus verb phrase, S consist of Conj plus NP plus VP, S consist of Conj plus Conj plus NP plus VP, S consist of CONJ plus NP plus VP.
Finally the researcher suggests to the readers who are interested in analyzing sentence structure to make more details explanation about sentence structure that portrayed in tree diagram and to collect the data accurately because there are many various advertisement sentences contain in the magazine and the advertisement used some linguistic field studies to express their ideas. Thus, there are still lot of data can be analyzed in term of Morphology or Semantic.
